SH MONSTERARTS GODZILLA ULTIMA (2021) | Figure Review

So...this took a long time to get here.
In the months long break I took after my Millennium Series reviews which I desperately needed, there's been a bit of a situation at the shipping ports that caused many of the figures I ordered from BigBadToyStore to be delayed, including what was supposed to be a Christmas gift!
(On the off chance you're reading this KaijuKidd, NO I DON'T KNOW WHERE IT IS!!!)

But for now, 2 of the figures I've ordered have arrived and now I can get back to work. Starting with a figure from a series I have yet to actually talk about on my blog. I'm working on getting something for it out, it just got away from me and once I finish the 2 figure reviews I have lined up, the plan is to jump straight into a Godzilla: Singular Point review.
Alright, enough housekeeping, let's review Godzilla Ultima.
I want to save the majority of my thoughts on Godzilla Ultima's design for my Singular Point review, but I can say for now that this figure looks great!
Ultima's sculpt is very impressive, from his spikey head to his dummy thicc thighs and his hilariously long tail (we'll get to that in a bit), this figure is gonna have some shelf presence.

Ultima's head looks very nice, but we do have a few QC issues on mine. His right eye looks pretty good, but the left eye has a bit too much black paint applied around the pupil. The teeth are painted fine for the most part, I have one random splotch on the left fang and some yellow paint bleeding onto the upper right jaw. Other than that the teeth look good, especially the ones inside of the mouth.
This Godzilla's skin and muscles have a much more segmented appearance than usual while keeping the classic, bumpy, gator skin and it is captured beautifully in the sculpt.
Thankfully, this design didn't go too overboard with the extra spikes on the body and the ones we do have are painted nicely with very little paint drip.
The position of the spikes on the arms are a little weird though.
Ultima's claws are painted nicely too. Also, I just realized that this is the first 3 toed Godzilla we've had since the Showa era. He even has a claw on the back of the leg, this is the first Godzilla with a dewclaw. (Zilla doesn't count)
Dorsal fins are sculpted great and the red vein lines on them are applied nicely, there's a few small hiccups in the paint that are only noticeable if you look for them.

Godzilla Ultima's articulation is as follows:
Ultima's mouth can open pretty wide, but be aware of its limit. Also, the lower jaw is attached via two pegs inside the cheeks, so have that knowledge and be careful.
His neck is made of 3 separate joints which if maneuvered properly and with care, can make him look all the way up, turn left and right and tilt side to side.

The arm movement is slightly limited due the sculpt. They can move in and out at the shoulder but can't make a full rotation, only forward. We have rotation at the biceps, the elbows bend and twist, and the hands are on ball joints that love to pop off from time to time.
Legs can move forward, backward and can even move out at the hip, with an added flap to hide hip gaps. There's a nice bend at the knee and the feet can rotate and pivot. Ultima's legs are big and the articulation makes balancing the figure a non issue.

Now that leaves us with...
The tail..
What is it with Toho and adding a comically long tail clause in their Godzilla plans? This tail is ridiculous! It's made up of 18 segments and close to 20 inches in length, you'll need shelf space!
But luckily, the tail is easy to move around and it holds it's position well, so get creative.

Accessory time!

The alternate head looks very nice, the teeth are even painted better then the standard head.
To attach it, you need to grab the head by the neck piece closest to the head, make sure you don't lose the middle piece and then attach the other head.
This roaring head may be how I display this figure from now on.
The other accessories we get are mini figures of the Prototype and β Jet Jaguar.
They're ok...
They also come with little stands that can attach to one of their feet.
They're ok...
I can sometimes get them to stand without them, but those moments are few and far between.

I'd probably like them better if they were actually painted. Maybe I can get Trista to do that, but otherwise, they're ok...

I'll admit, I had some reservations about ordering this figure. But I have to say, I really love this figure.
It's a little pricey (thanks tail!) but if you really like this design and Singular Point, I recommend getting this figure, especially if you can get a deal on it. And get it now while it's in stock! Ya never know how long this port crisis is gonna last.

Till next time, I have been your host Gryphon
and thank you for joining me here in my lair
So long...
