PLAYMATES TOYS GODZILLA (2004) 11" | Figure Review

Yeah, I bought another Playmates figure. I'm pretty sure you know the deal with them by now, so lets get right on into it.

Being a larger scale figure, this figure fares a bit better in terms of sculpt and detail. To be fair, this is a pretty good representation of the FinalGoji design. The proportions are on point and Godzilla is in an appropriate pose, ready for battle.

The head is the best part about this figure. I'm not going into the whole "did Playmates steal molds?" argument, but I will say that the head on the Bandai America 12" Godzilla 2004 doesn't hold a candle to the head on the Playmates version, which is much more movie accurate.
Actually, in my opinion, the Bandai America head looks a lot how Godzilla appears on one of the Japanese posters for the movie when viewed from the front.
The main body of the figure is a hard plastic while the dorsal fins are soft rubber.

As far as the finer details are concerned, we have an unusual situation. Most of the figure has the usual bumpy Godzilla skin, but other area's such as the side of the neck and the inner thighs have a more smoother surface. I minor detail perhaps, but it does contrast with the bumpier surfaces.

I also noticed some of the fins on the tail are literally melded together.

Now the paint...
(I'm going to ignore the orange splotch on my figures head, for now).
Godzilla's skin color has more of a lighter grey color then I think the FinalGoji suit has. Not too much of a problem.

The dorsal fins on the other hand have too much white on them and the excessive white shading carries on to the back.
I do think the paint is where the Bandai America figure has the advantage. Give the Playmates figure the colors of the Bandai America figure and we might have something amazing!

Articulation is as follows:

The head can rotate. The arms can move forward and backward at the shoulder. The legs can move forward and backward, but the way they are sculpted means they can rub against each other if moved forward at the same time. The feet can rotate. The tail, which you will be required to attach to the figure after taking it out of the packaging, has 2 points of rotation.

I love seeing this guy next to X-Plus Gigan 2004

I do have my gripes with this figure, but in the end I do not regret my purchase. Overall I'd say this figure is probably the second best of the Playmates Toys line. The only thing keeping this from beating out the 11" Kong is the paint on the dorsal fins. I can still give this a recommendation though.

Also that is the Bandai America Godzilla 2000 figure on the box, while the idea that Playmates is stealing sculpts is debatable, they are clearly using images from another toyline for their packaging. WHAT THE [BANANA OIL] IS GOING ON HERE!?!!
