NECA made their figure using the actual digital files from the movie and it really does show on this figure, as the sculpt is pretty damn accurate. No part of the body feels disproportionate and the details on the figure are pretty outstanding. Godzilla's skin looks and feels as rough and bumpy as it should be.
The Dorsal Fins my seem small but I assure you, after holding this figure in front of paused scenes from Godzilla 2014, they are the appropriate size. My only gripe with the dorsal fins is that they don't look as detailed as they should be.
One detail that stands out to me are the teeth. What teeth there are look good, but there are some pretty big gaps between them without any. Godzilla does have teeth but they are smaller and thus I understand that they would have been hard to sculpt.
As for the paint, that opens up a very interesting can of worms. Two different versions were released, but neither were marked as being a variant.
The figure I own, has a glossy black body, with a brownish underbelly. Other figures were released with a greyish blue wash across the body. I gotta say, I prefer the all black body one.
The eyes are painted very nicely for being so small.
Godzilla's claws on the hands are painted black while the claws on the feet have the brownish color. Odd choice.
Godzilla's head movement is pretty limited, but it can rotate and move left and right.
The neck has rotation.
The arms have a great range of movement. Shoulders can rotate/move in and out. Shoulders can bend and rotate. The hands can rotate and
The body can move forward and rotate at the waist.
The legs move forward/backward and can move out a bit. Knees bend and the legs rotate at the knee. And the feet can rotate and pivot.
Unfortunately, Godzilla does not come with any accessories. Not even an Atomic Breath piece. It would take 3 years before that became a near standard for NECA Godzilla's.
As of summer 2020, the 2014 Godzilla has been reissued by NECA with a brand new, sexy poster box!
The figure itself is the exact same as before, however it has gone through some cosmetic changes.
The paint overall is more solid and not glossy.
I also really like how the paint makes the Dorsal Fins look more detailed than the last release.

But regardless of which variant, I still think NECA's Godzilla 2014 figure is pretty fantastic. This was just the beginning of what NECA had to offer us eager Godzilla fans.
The only thing that would make the 2014 figure better is if it were bigger...
