NECA MUTAVORE - Figure Review

These past couple of weeks I've been trying to do more types of blogs besides figure reviews. I've done movie impressions, a Blu-ray review and even an editorial. Right now I'm trying to work on a big retrospective I've been planning on doing for months now and it's been a busy couple of weeks. It kept me distracted while waiting for Mutavore to arrive though. But now that he's here, I can take a break from that big project and get back to what I'm most familiar with at the moment, and that is talking about really cool depictions of giant monsters, like this awesome guy right here!

 It should be noted that there will be some assembly required, simply attach Mutavore's fin the the coressponding peg hole on his back.

Speaking of which, doesn't Mutavore's detached fin kinda look like Alan Grant's Raptor claw?

 The first thing that caught my attention about this figure was the head, especially the eyes. Even in the movie, I never really got a good look at Mutavore's eyes until now. Mutavore just has a really cool design overall, looking like a mix between a Dinosaur and a Shark, with 6 eyes on each side of his lower jaw, which is kinda interesting. The skin color looks great and I love the texture scattered all over the body. And the new sculpt is a nice change of pace.
As for the articulation, you'll notice what looks like a hinge next to his head which would suggest that his head could turn left and right, and that is indeed the case
His head can can also rotate around and the neck can move up, down, left and right.

 The big outer arms have good articulation with rotation at the shoulders and elbows. The shoulders can move out a little bit, but don't try to force it, otherwise the entire arm will snap off. And the hands can rotate and move up and down.
Not much to say about the small inner arms, they swivel around and bend at the shoulder. Also they look like mini Gigan arms which makes me laugh.

 Articulation points at the waist and legs are also pretty good. The amount of twisting and rotation included makes for some good posing possibilities. 

 Looking at the fins and the tails, I gotta say again, I love the coloring and texture on them. The tails do not move at all, which is an odd change of pace, considering past NECA Kaiju figures have come with bendy wires in the tails for posing. 

I don't recall how they move in the movie if they did at all, but I figured they would at least move a little. But, oh well.

 One of the things I worried about with Mutavore though was how to pose him. Promotional pictures showed him leaning pretty far forward and I was thinking that it looked pretty front heavy, meaning it would probably fall over. And when I tried posing him like he looks in the back of the box....he fell over. As expected.

I thought that maybe if a figure stand was included that might help with the posing, but it looked like the figure wasn't going to be included with such an apparatus. 

 I didn't notice it at first taking Mutavore out of the box, but as I was trying to figure out how to get the back fin included out of the plastic, I looked on the side of the cardboard and noticed that there was something wrapped in plastic. I took it out and much to my surprise, NECA actually included a figure stand! That just made me so happy!

Now I could actually pose Mutavore in a more hunched over position without having to worry about him falling on his face like a dumbass. The stand holds him well and keeps him pretty steady.
If anyone at NECA is reading this, thank you so very much for this unexpected surprise! You guys rock!!!

Mutavore looks great standing next to his fellow Kaiju such as Leatherback and Knifehead.

And he also looks great in scale standing next to the Jaeger figures.

And with the Ultimate Striker Eureka, their battle scene from the movie can now be recreated on your shelf.

This is a really great offering from NECA, I really love it and to me it was well worth the wait.
While I'm excited for the upcoming Hardship and Ultimate Lady Danger, I'm also a bit sad because according to NECA and some other sources, after those figures come out, the Pacific Rim figure line will be over. I don't know how true it is, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens. Maybe a miracle can be pulled from the Drift.
